Gwinn Commons Dining Hall Launches New Chef Spotlight Program
February 12, 2019
There are many people behind the scenes of Gwinn who work hard to prepare over 1,500 meals a day to the Seattle Pacific University community and we wanted to bring our chefs to the front of the house so students can meet the people behind their food. Our chefs come from different parts of the country and even the world, so we are excited to share a bit about them and have students try dishes from their background. During these events, our chefs come up with a dish that they grew up eating and present it at the Chef's Table station in Gwinn Commons Dining Hall. The station is decorated according to their theme, and there are bio's available where students can learn some fun facts about the chef's!
We kicked off our new program highlighting Campus Executive Chef Chris, during our Chicago Dinner on January 30th and we also featured Chef Leit during Lunar New Year. Leit is originally from Vietnam, but is of Chinese descent, and has a huge passion for meat, seafood and making Asian cuisine. He was a chef for an Asian restaurant for over 15 years and he was excited to make a Moo Shu Chicken Wrap with a Crispy Egg Roll over Rice to celebrate the New Year. On February 5th, we showcased our talented Sous Chef, Arturo from the Philippines, who made delicious Chicken Adobo on Rice Congee with Roasted Vegetables! He has been working for SPU Dining for over 7 years and is known for his bright smile and excellent work ethic. It was great to see him shine some light during midterms and the icy weather!
Be on the look out for our next Chef Spotlights on our Sous Chefs, Justin and Donald later this month!
